I just finished reading Fresh Wind, Fresh Fire by the pastor of the Brooklyn Tabernacle. Very cool book! That is a church that was built upon a solid foundation -- prayer. This book is mostly about praying and earnestly seeking God. He stresses that it is prayer that makes or breaks a church.
I have to agree with him. In my experience in the various churches where we have gone, those churches that pray and have a focus on prayer, are the churches that are on fire for God. If more people would fall on their faces and interceed for their community and their church, we'd see a lot more happen.
Prayer is hard though. I should know, 'cause my prayer life is almost non-existent. I find when I start to pray I get hit with distractions and things that really take my focus off of God. But prayer is vital to our walk as Christians. Without prayer there isn't a relationship and we're almost the same as those people who have a "religion" and no relationship.
Lord, I want to pray. I want to turn my eyes to You and let You hear the cries of my heart. I want to have that spirit of intercession and I want to burn with a desire to pray people into Your arms. Touch my heart and let me PRAY!! Amen.
