I love our dinner conversations... Dad and I can have so much fun just discussing stuff. Tonight we were talking about how I would deal with girls getting crushes on guys. It got me thinking about the future and what I would like to see God do in my youth group. That led to thinking about why I want to be a youth pastor and what I want to see... That then led me to make a mission statement. I thought you might like to hear it.... *grins* er.. read it.
My goals as a youth pastor will to help Youth to Grow in their walk with God. I want a youth group of kids who focus totally on God. They won’t care about sports; they won’t care about relationships with the other sex; they won’t care about their image or the way others see them. The only thing that they will care about is God. I want to see teens praying for the sick and seeing them healed. I want to see teens praying before and after school for their classmates. I want to see their faces upturned to God in worship. I want to see God moving upon the young people.
In order to see that, I will first turn my eyes inward and work on my relationship with God. Without my walk being on track, how can I expect those that look up to me to live for Christ? So before I start my teaching and my daily walk as a Youth Pastor, I’m going to spend time with God. In this time before my becoming a youth pastor in actuality, I’m going to start preparing my heart for that time. I want to shine with His light.
As a Youth pastor, my goal is to work with the parents of the teenagers. I want a partnership with them, a relationship that comes together with both of us desiring the teen to walk closely with God. I hope to develop a group of parents that will help me point those young people towards Christ.
Finally, I want to win other young people to Christ. But I don’t want to be the one doing it. I want to see God working through the young people and I want to see them reaching out to the unwanted and the sinners. I want to see the Holy Spirit empowering my youth and seeing them bring the lost sheep into the fold.
I don’t want to have a big crowd of kids because of my preaching, or the games we play, or the worship. I want to have a crowd of kids around because they want Jesus! That is my heartfelt desire and that is why I’m called to be a youth pastor.
