BreakPoint | More Than Duct Tape - Is cyberculture damaging to us?

Monday, December 29, 2003

Well, it's a white 4-days after Christmas... Just in time to make me have to cancel my doctors appointment in Portland. Not exactly a good thing 'cause I was primed for it, but hey, at least now I can help Mom clean!

Well, let's see... Christmas was a blast eventually. I hadn't felt like it was really Christmas until we had the Christmas Eve service. that helped a lot.

We did our traditional read the Christmas Story, pray, and open gifts that night. My brother ducttaped his package to me... twas appropriate I suppose...

Then we had stockings... Dave and I put silly string in our parents and they used it. Very nice to see my parents involved in a silly string war...

Had a family that Dad's been ministering to for Christmas Dinner. A lady, her daughter, and three little kids. The kids took to me of course. *grins* Twas a lot of fun. But what's sad is they have no male influence on their lives. broke my heart.

Well, I have a week left to get all the things I haven't done, done. I've been a bad boy. *laughs* Oh well, I will be working doubly hard during term.

I'm chatting with Martha right now and we've talked a little about the wedding in august... We both can't wait to go! *grins* That's going to be sooooo much fun!

RISK! Lord of the Rings Risk no less! My brother got Dad this for Christmas. We're avid Risk fans, but this is even better... It's taking a long time to get the hang of it though. We have a card table set up in our basement with the game in motion. I really enjoy playing games with my family. It's something we don't do enough of at school.

The Passion of Christ - I am definitely going to go see this! It amazes me that Mel Gibson has made something like this. He's a good actor, but some of the movies he's been in have been very scuzzy.

This Christmas seems to be so sad... I keep hearing of people's hard times and their struggles. Then the news of disasters occuring all over the world. I have a heavy heart and it goes out to those people struggling right now.

Well, I was going to talk about our Christmas and the fun we had, but I think I am not in the mood anymore...

Chasing Papi - Medium Trailer

Looks like Jaci V. is getting into movies... Dunno if I'd actually watch that one...

Update: filled out one of those email survey things and put it in my bio.

So, yeah, today was fun. I woke up at 5:50 and seemed like I was actually awake and ready to get up. I looked at the time, I gave it some thought, said no, and went back to sleep. *grins* So then at 9, Mom woke me up and said that a guy in the church, Andy, needed a ride up to Sandy to buy a car. Me, not having anything special to do, said yes. So Andy, and his brother went up and bought the car. They then treated me to a burger at Calamity Jane's. If you're ever in Sandy, OR, you must try their burgers. Huge, and delicious! Feeling full, we then came home. That took most of the day.

It was fun, 'cause, while I know Andy, I don't know him very well and the trip up was quite fun. It's interesting how even when I don't make an effort, God is bringing me into contact with people. it's a very interesting experience...

Not much happening on the Greek front. I'm a little worried, actually, 'cause I need to review and I need to memorize. Otherwise I may be having the same problem I had last term and be on the edge. I hate being on the edge. I like having a grasp of the concepts and the knowledge to do well in my classes. Not having time, or not doing well makes me stress, and I don't like that feeling. Besides, when I'm on the edge, I know I'm not doing the best I can, and I'm doing it for God, so I have to do the best I can.

Just watched Treasure Planet. Good movie. I think they did an excellent job at retelling the story in that motiff (does it have an 'e' or not? motiffe?).

As far as my spiritual life goes... I have moments of prayer and I do talk to God, but I'm back into the lazy mode. What is it about my home that makes me lazy? I hate it, 'cause when I'm lazy, I sin. Stinks.

Let's see, tomorrow is Christmas Eve... We're having a service, but I don't think many people will be there. Our family always opens gifts on Christmas Eve, so we'll be opening them tomorrow and doing most of our traditions. Should be fun. Wish we could have gone to be with extended family, but being a pastor means you have to stick around for holidays.

Glad you liked the pictures... I can't wait to get a scanner, 'cause those aren't the best quality.

Okay, so I came up with a solution... Instead of scanning them in, since I can't find a scanner that works, I decided to take digital pictures. So click on the picture and see the strangeness!

Not to mention there's another picture from the 15th there...

Oh, and this article is cool!
All Day by the Cross Movement

(Verse 1)
I understand and stand under the cross of He who bled
Now I'm covered in His blood-shed, all I see is red
Like the Red Sea, it's deadly with out Christ so cool it
My God played this world like twelve inches, cause He rules it
From pulpit to ghetto, projects to golden meadows
The Bread of Life leads men back home like Hanzel and Gretle
Push the peddle across the globe like express truckers or bikers
Carry the Gospel like Fed- Ex from Rutgers to Rikers
Some love us some like, then some can't stand us,
Cause we expose and appose the evil that man does
That we do, not even those who speak in Greek and Hebrew
Can build a wall of knowledge of self that God can't see through
It's He who made us, and not we ourselves,
Don't have enough might, enough thought power cells
And our shells are empty until He fills them
So ætil then Cross Movement will be chillin'
No more lookin' for a real love Mary J.
Now I parley with Jesus all day every day.

Chorus:
And that's from sun up, unto sun down
There is One Love, who wears One crown
Long as my mic is plugged into my cord
We live one life and we serve One Lord

(Verse 2)
Daily, my mind is bombarded with the fact of things
That God is not a part of our everyday happenings,
The raps we sing, the films we watch, the lives we live, men's prerogative
And we like it like that, when God's word comes across the net,
You can bet we spike it right back

But when you're the object of pain, it's not odd it's insane
How God is left out, yet God gets the blame
When it's negative, yet all the while peep all the smiles
As peeps call and shout, ôyo, just let us liveö
Even though it's very contrary to what He say
That's how they roll all day every day

Repeat Chorus

(Verse 3 )
Check this y'all, don't get lost in my song rhythm
Eyes off me and onto the King who's long livin'
Ever since me and the Lord have been swingin like ax handles
Without Him, life is risky business like tax scandals
Now He got me feelin nicer than Jack Daniels
Reject Christ and end up burnin like wax candles
But that's not His main thrust, look how He gains trust
And loved us enough to let His veins bust
Follow man if you want trouble,
Live life on your own and catch wreck like a stunt double
Death is the penalty for sin so we're called to die
So all rise, but all eyes on the fall guy
The substitute, man's stand in at the cross
Was slain as a lamb, paid as a ransom for the lost
The cost of keeping it real, hip-hop's motto and creed
Is escaping reality, through a fat bag of weed
I would've had to bleed, just to pay for my own sins
Born with an omen, ætil Christ came now I owe Him
And can't repay, so check the chant we say
It's Jesus the Christ all day every day
And can't repay, so check the chant we say
It's Jesus the Christ all day every day

Repeat Chorus

Feeling: Happy; Mellow
Listening to: Hesitation Blues by the Waybacks
Current thought: When am I ever going to get all of these Greek words into the computer?
Current Frustration: Can't get the scanner to work with my computer. Sorry to all of those who want to see me without a beard. You could send me money to buy a new scanner with? *grins*

I've been listening to Blindside. Very interesting lyrics. I found this cool site that had the lyrics for the CD I borrowed from JoshBlindside Lyrics. I'm actually liking this CD.

It's funny how I can't seem to get to sleep. I turned out the light at 10 something and laid there. Sleep wasn't coming. So I grabbed my laptop and went looking at bloggers. I found the RIfugee one and discovered something that I wasn't expecting... Went to James blog and was informed yet once again. He's very thoughtful... Tis an interesting person. Samuel needs to update, so does Anna.

Hi people! Yeah, I've survived!!!!

Dead week was quite interesting. I can barely remember it now, 'cause I was so busy. However, my sociology project went quite well. We went to two different places, the Gateway Mall and Wal-Mart, with a wheelchair. At the mall, Tony pretended to be retarded and Josh pushed him around. I watched people and it was quite interesting to see their reactions. Most people would glance at them and then glance away and continue on their way. There was more interaction at Wal-Mart 'cause Josh was in the wheelchair then and he does a very good impression of a retarded person. *grins* Most people were just a bit afraid and wouldn't talk to them. I found it quite interesting.

Finals week was also interesting. I had Sociology on Monday and so I studied for that over the weekend, as well as Greek. Then I had Greek and Native American Lit on Tuesday and I studied 6 hours for greek and 3 hours for NAL. I think I did really well on those finals. Of course I was burnt out and the next final showed it. I'll be happy with a C on that final. The last final I took was Speech and I believe I did fairly well on that one. So I was happy to be done with this term!

I went out to Shari's with a group of friends on Thursday night. That was a great time. We had a lot of fun. Then I installed Half-life on my laptop and stayed up until 2:30am. *grins* I'm addicted.

Friday was a busy day of running errands and getting everything packed.

Then I left Eugene yesterday and got home around 2pm. It's nice to be home.

Oh, Jen, I used Ministry as my last Speech topic. Didn't get the outline in on time, so that was a B that got dropped to a C, and then the actual speech was a C. I had a horrible time remembering what I wanted to say and so flubbed up a few points. But I think that's 'cause I didn't prepare enough. I am definitely practicing more next term for Speech II.

Let's see... Oh, I'm putting my definition of ministry to the test and seeing if I can actually 'minister' in that way. So far it's been interesting.

Well, that's all for now. I need to sit down and plan out my break. I have a plan. I want to get a lot of Greek done and I also want to work on my car and do things with the family. I want to keep myself busy! *grins*
