Well, this weekend is fun! I decided a couple of days ago that I needed to get out of town. What with all the papers to write, the last few weeks of being an RA, and having almost nine months of being with the same people, I was stressed. One of the girl RA's had mentioned being stressed and that made her want to go home. Thus she did. That made me think about it and decide late Thursday that I needed to do the same thing. I worked on Friday and left campus around 6:30. I made it in four hours, because of several photo stops and some slow traffic.

The best part of it is that Mother didn't know that I was coming. She called me while I was on the road and I talked to her up to the point where I got out of the car and walked to the door. It was great 'cause she didn't know why anyone would be coming to the back driveway that late. *grins* I think I made them happy!

So, I've been talking to my brother and hanging out all day. I have papers to write and they are slowly taking form.

We're having London Broil tonight, prepared in the grill. I am starving!

Yesterday was a glorious day! The sun was shining and the aspiring musician - Josh - was ready for a photo shoot. So Josh, Brittany, Audrey went with a photographer (me) downtown. We took pictures galore (almost 100) and I think Josh has some good ones to choose from. I just uploaded several from yesterday, as well as a sunrise I caught a few days ago. Enjoy.

Heh. I did something that I haven't done since my freshman year. I stayed up all night writing two papers that were due today. Technically I had the whole weekend to do these papers, but, being the king of procrastination, I didn't do them. I went to a birthday party of a 3 year-old (Josh's sister's kid), borrowed Stargate SG-1 5th Season from them, came back to campus, went to the library and ended up watching two or three episodes up there. Then I went to dinner, pizza. Called a friend, talked to her for awhile and then started watching Stargate episodes until 12. Sunday I went to church, came back, watched Stargate and tried to write my papers. Well, watched all the Stargate episodes while getting a little bit of the paper written. Three o'clock rolls around and I'm finally done with Stargate. I then focus on the papers and by six thirty I have them written. I then went to bed for an hour. Woke up, went to Greek, took a test, did okay on it considering the state of mind. Went back to my room after printing my papers and then dozed a bit until chapel. Chapel and classes were difficult to stay awake in, but I did it. Now I'm sitting here in the computer lab, awake and not doing too bad actually. I'm tired, but I still have until five and then I go over to Ryan and Kristine's for dinner at 6.

What's nice is that getting those two papers done leaves 7 500 word essays, a 3 page book report, a one page stance paper, and a take home final that is basically an essay. Oh and 15 or more verses to memorize. Most of my reading is done, so I can focus on papers.

Almost done... It's just the next couple weeks that I need to get through. I'm looking forward to honors banquet and graduation. I have several friends who are seniors that it's going to be fun to see them end their days at EBC. Which reminds me, I need to get a ticket to banquet.

Let's see... I don't think I have anything else going through this sleep deprived brain of mine. I'm just excited about getting done...

I've been focusing on my western civ course today. I read two chapters in the main textbook about the Roman Republic and Empire. Then I read Cruelty and Civilization. This book is about the gladiators and the place the games had in Roman civilization. It was such a part of their lives. Each sity if they could afford it, had some sort of games. One of the more interesting things was that the charioteers were divided into four factions (there were more, but they didn't last long). These factions had fights (mob action), but the interesting thing is that prominent citizens curried favor with the side that they cheered for. Political favor.

Anyways, the whole thing made me think about the similarity between our society wanting to be entertained and the Roman society being entertained. TV permiates our society; the games permiated Roman society. It's an escape from daily life. The Romans crowded into the Coliseum to see fights to the death, execution of criminals, and the wild animals tear eachother and humans to pieces. We sit down and watch CSI which deals with death and graphic murder; we watch Survivor which is all about backstabbing and breaking trust; we get fanatical about sports and which team is the best. It's something interesting to think about...

Okay, no one answered my question in the last post. Here it is again: Here’s a question that occurred to me as I was studying Theology: Assuming the Bottomless Pit is truly bottomless and the normal laws of physics apply, how fast will Satan be traveling at the end of a thousand years? So, can any of my friends or relatives answer that?

I wrote this earlier.

I am tired! Not only am I recovering from Thursday night (stayed up until 2:30am talking to Josh. Good conversation and prayer that I really needed), but I had the privilege of helping my friend Chris move across town. We started at 9am and ended around 1:30 or so. It was a small moving van and he didn’t have a whole lot of stuff, so we were able to get things loaded up fairly fast. He had another friend show up to help, so the three of us got him moved in. I like the apartments he moved into. They were clean and roomy for a two bedroom. I asked him if he thought they had three-bedrooms and he thought they did at a price of $750 or so. I would love that! They’re just a bit far from the college though. There is a bus route that goes by there, so if we learn the routes a $30 a month bus pass might be a good investment.

I’m honestly thinking about using the bus more, ‘cause the price of gas is horrible! I’ve spent 70 dollars on gas this month and am about to put another 30 to 40 worth in. It would definitely be cheaper to learn the bus routes.

So, because I’m tired, I’m having a hard time concentrating on homework. Thus this entry on my laptop which will get posted later on. I sat down yesterday and went through my calendar to see what I had to do to finish out the term. I have a list now and can plan my homework accordingly. The main thing is my external western civ course. It should go fast, but I have to be on top of things for the next four weeks.

Yeah, school ends the second week of June. It’s amazing. I’m ending my Junior year, going to intern for the summer, and then when I come back I’ll be in my Senior year! Wow. There’s going to be a lot of changes next year and I’m getting stoked for them. I’ll be taking a couple of Bible Independent Studies from Dr. B. and probably doing a couple of external studies – all along side regular classes. I’m thinking next year is going to be a blast, ‘cause of living in an apartment and being able to isolate myself to focus on homework. Being off of campus is going to be very nice. No more loud noises at twelve in the morning. Yeah, Josh will be up late, but he should be able to keep quiet at that time…

I’ll need to transport my desk from home. Some of the books and other things I have there will need to come over here. I have a sofa, chair, folding table, and several other things that we’ll need. The thing I don’t have is a bed. I’m wanting a twin because I’ve discovered that since I have been sleeping in a twin I get better sleep. Plus it saves on space and I’m going to need space for bookshelves. I have a plan to make some shelves that are specifically designed for small paperbacks. We’ll see if I get to do that when I go home.

Okay, let’s get back to the homework.

Here’s another thing I’m looking forward to when I get an apartment – cooking my own food! Yes, a guy who wants to cook. I’m getting really tired of all the processed food that we eat in the cafeteria. I’m hoping to buy some organic, but most definitely more fresh fruit and veggies. I want to learn how to make hummus. I want to find out more about nutrition and what my body really needs to have to survive. Yeah, there will be the days where I order pizza, but I hope to make those days and the days I eat out very few and far between. I also have friends who are excited about having a place to come and cook at. Both Brittany and Joe are very excited. *laughs* Hey, I won’t complain.

I’m already packing some of my stuff… My reasoning is that by packing my stuff and putting it in a storage unit, I’ll be able to clean better for white glove inspection at the end of the term. I plan on taking all unnecessary stuff to the storage unit the last week of May. That includes my recliner and fridge and a lot of books. My room is going to look rather bare by the time I get all that out. That will be a good thing for the whole cleaning idea.

I need to decide what books I want to take with me to Everett. I have a few books that are on my to read list for the summer:
How Now Should We Live? by Chuck Colson
Refuting Evolution
The Light and the Glory by Peter Marshall and some other guy
Crime and Punishment by that Russian guy who I’m not even going to try to spell his name.
I do have several others but those are the ones within range of my eyes. I kind of expect to be required to read some books for my internship.

I also want to keep up on the Greek stuff, so I basically need to take at least half of my notes and maybe even my grammars. Which is a lot. Two years of notes and handouts take a lot of room. I should be able to organize and consolidate them though.

I wish I knew where I was staying and how much room I’ll have. That is important to what I pack to take up there and what goes into storage. Maybe it’ll be with an older couple who have a spare room. Maybe it’ll be bunking with a teenager. Maybe they’ll rent me an apartment… Nah, I’d rather stay with someone.

Man, this is a thinking about the Future type of post. Hunh. Knowing me, everything I say will change by this summer, or by this fall.

Oh, I was looking at an EBC Calendar for next year. We actually get three weeks of Christmas break from December to January 9th. I’m excited ‘cause that gives me more time to do things. The bad thing is that it pushes Spring Break down a week to the last week of March and I really hope that Embry-Riddle does that too. I want to be able to spend Spring Break with my brother. (That depends on a lot of things, but it’d be a fun time!)

Just Married

Well, I just spent the weekend in Washington.

Stephen and Elizabeth got married yesterday. Wow. A beautiful ceremony, but the preceding stress makes me wonder if it’s worth it… Yeah, of course. We stayed up until 4am decorating the the church and preparing for the wedding in the afternoon. Steve and I were staying with a good friend and got three hours of sleep. Then It was time to go to the church and get ready. Then the groomsmen calmed Steve while he was waiting to see Liz. It was worth the wait...

... and the ceremony was awesome! I was standing there, watching their faces and the side glances and the joy beaming from their faces and I was so happy for them. When the unity candle was lit, and they were standing there listening to a song, I saw some tears. It was touching. Then they were pronounced man and wife and walked out to the receiving line. I was part of that line.

That was fun, ‘cause I got to shake hands. I felt like someone of importance! And it was interesting to see reactions when I told people that I met both of them on the internet.

The reception was full of people and good food. I got to toast them and said something to the effect of “Glad to have been a part of your lives through the first Instant Messaging, the Mexico missions trip, and everything else. May God bless you with a very long marriage!” It was great. After all the official cutting the cake – with a dagger – and throwing the bouquet (steve’s youngest sister, 10, caught it) and the garter (the single men didn’t even try to catch it and this little boy got it!) I changed and left. They were still helping clean up, but I think they left soon after I did.

Then I drove around for a few hours. It was a lot of fun and I think it relaxed me. I went back to the friend's apartment and built that friendship up more.

This morning I went to New Life Center for Church. Since it's Mother's Day, they did a special reading of the book "I'll Love You Forever" and wow, I teared up. The sermon was good and then I went and sat waiting for Nate to get done praying for people. Didn't get to talk much, but enough to find out that I am definitely interning up there. Very cool! Now to work out all the details of what I'll be doing and where I'll be living and all of that. I'm excited!

Traveling today I was just wanting to get home and it took forever... I'm going to go to bed immediately when I get to my room after work...
