October 1999

Found a Doctor in Spokane. Dr. Nye looked at my eyes and said that contacts are the only way to treat Keratoconus. There's an Optician, Ken Brown, on the other side of building who is working with me. At that first appointment Dr. Brown measured my corneas and ordered some diagnostic contacts. It's going to be two weeks until the next appointment.

December 1999

Well, we've had a few appointments. Been doing a bunch of stuff. Fitting contacts is something else. I should be getting my contacts in January...

January 2000

Went in and got the contacts. I wore them for a week and had to go back in. my right contact was giving me problems. He'll get a replacement and hopefully that will work.

February 2000

Yay! My contact came in and I got it while Herb and Gill were here. Twas nice to be able to see my cousins clearly. Oh, and it turns out that Ken Brown has the same Birthday as I do. Pretty cool!

March 2000 - January 2001

Not all that much has happened this year. I have had some problems and my left eye just keeps advancing and getting steeper. I have to change it every 2 or 3 months. Pretty annoying!

February -- April 2001

Man, these last few months have been awful. We changed the fit three times on the RGP in my left eye and got to the point that we couldn't go up or down. My eye was just not accepting the hard contact. Ken finally decided that it was time to try the special soft contacts made for Keratoconus.

About a week ago or so, I got my first soft contact. Very hard to put in. RGPs are a lot easier to put in! Oh well, I suppose I'll get used to it.

May -- December 2001

This soft contact is so much easier on my eye! I can't see as well, but it is much nicer.

I got a job in Oct. and made the mistake of not putting Keratoconus on as a disability. I had a period of time where they wanted me to work nights. There was no way! I can't drive at night, the glare is very extreme and my eyes would not handle it. That was resolved by a miracle of God! The new hires came on the floor and I stayed on day shift!

We have yet to find an eye doc here, but we have the name of one that is supposed to be good. I miss Ken. He was a very good Optrician and a good friend. I was in good hands up there.
